About Lee PTA
In addition, the Lee PTA exists to support developing and maintaining relationships between parents, the school and the district, and the community which benefit the education and well-being of our students. We prioritize activities that are in direct support of the arts integration mission of Lee school, but engage in all areas of student life.
We are a non-profit organization and all funds raised are used to directly support Lee school.
Anyone is welcome at Lee PTA meetings, whether or not they are PTA members. However, we encourage you to join! Membership is required to vote on PTA business.
About Lee School
The mission of Lee Expressive Arts Elementary School is to promote learning through the arts, based on the belief that arts integration enhances student achievement in school and community, throughout life. This model of public education is enriched by Lee’s small learning environment, its unique geographical location in the heart of downtown Columbia, and the diversity of its student body. Approximately half of Lee students live in its neighborhood attendance area, while the other half attend by lottery or special permission.
Founded in 1904 as one of Columbia’s first public schools, Lee became an expressive arts school in 1990. As a result, Lee students have the opportunity to integrate art, music, movement, drama, and literature with math, science, reading, and social studies. Students regularly work with local musicians and artists, perform concerts, display visual art, attend performances, and visit museums and galleries. Lee’s Artist-in-Residence program brings professional artists to the school for valuable in-depth art experiences that enrich the lives and education of all Lee students.
As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) reminds our country of its obligations to children and provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students. At Lee, we strive to support the needs of all our students and families through our work.
