Learn about all the different containers that exist from antiquity to modern times. How were they made and in what different ways could their shapes have been used? How were they decorated? Then create one of your own. (Limit two children per accompanying adult) Pre-registration required, 882-3591

IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ANNUAL SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM DAY and THE MISSOURI HISTORICAL SOCIETY of MISSOURI

We are celebrating the annual Smithsonian Museum Day with a family event commemorating the sesquicentennial of Order No. 11. After the Civil War, George Caleb Bingham painted a picture representing the enforcement this 1863 military directive, which forced the evacuation of much of western Missouri. Dressed as Bingham’s wife, Art Curator Dr. Joan Stack will provide a program at the Museum to start the event, and then tours of SHSMO’s gallery featuring the painting. Activities will be available in the Museums galleries, in addition to a series of interactive projects in each location. Begin the adventure at 1:00 p.m. at the Museum of Art and Archaeology in 106 Pickard Hall. No Pre-registration required

26 Saturday Haunted Museum 6:00–8:30pm Everyone welcome! An event for families and their children, students, and grownups. Come visit your favorite characters and artists, along with the usual ghosts and goblins. Groups of 20 at a time are taken on a tour of the Museum to see the artworks come to life. Enjoy a movie and various Halloween creatures while you wait. No Pre-registration required

14 Thursday Art After School Animals in Africa(Grades K-8) 4-6 pm

Let’s look at the animals in the Museum with biologist Tabitha Finch, and then she will talk about Africa. Afterwards, we will make masks of animals and anything else that has inspired you. (Limit two children per accompanying adult) Pre-registration required, 882-3591
