The University of Missouri just announced its intention to move the Museum of Art and Archaeology and the Museum of Anthropology off campus, miles north of downtown. These museums play a HUGE role in the learning and curriculum of our students at Lee, so we are deeply concerned about the University’s plans.
Here is what parents and members of our Lee community can do to help. Four things:
· Write to Chancellor Brady Deaton and ask him to include funds for a new museums building—for both the Museum of Art and Archaeology and the Museum of Anthropology—in the upcoming capital campaign.
· Tell Chancellor Deaton, Provost Brian Foster and Dean Mike O’Brien how much the Museum means to you, and how you feel the Museum’s removal reflects on the University and its commitment to the arts.
· Write letters to the local newspapers.
· Have your children write a letter to the Chancellor or to the local paper saying how they feel about the Museum, what they like best or found meaningful, and how it feels to have the Museum moving away.
Thanks to all of you who have shared your concerns and for helping to shape the future of our museums and the learning at Lee!
